OATS : The Everyday Superfood
While oats may not be the trendiest “superfood” out there. They may seem simple, but I do believe they might be one of the most underrated foods.
When I started imagining what I wanted The Rolling Oat to become, oats felt like the obvious starting point. Oats remind me that sometimes the simplest foods are the most powerful. They are grounding, nourishing, and incredibly powerful in the way they fuel both movement and recovery. I think that is what makes them a true superfood.
One of the biggest reasons I love oats, especially as a runner is the kind of energy they provide. Oats are rich in complex carbohydrates. Unlike highly processed foods that cause energy crashes, they digest more slowly and provide a steadier release of energy. That steady energy helps support endurance, performance, and recovery without the major crash that often come from quick-burning foods. For runners and active lifestyles, that matters. If you have ever experienced “bonking” during a long run, where your energy suddenly crashes, you know how important steady fueling can be.
While oats may seem simple, but nutritionally they are incredibly impressive. They contain:
Fibre, plant-based protein, antioxidants, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorous, manganese, b vitamins.
